What a blessing it was. We had a high time in the Lord. This year we had Youth day the same day as Mother's Day. That was no mistake! The youth leading out in the Divine Worship Service was to show appreciation to the mothers in our youth specifically and the mothers within the church.
Mother's Day is a celebration honoring the mother of the family, as well as motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in society. We choose to celebrate it at the same time that the world celebrates it because w believe that we can change the commercialization and add a more meaningful and spiritual context to it.
Did you know the creator Anna Javis became resentful of the commercialization of the holiday? By the early 1920s, Hallmark Cards and other companies had started selling Mother's Day cards. Anna Jarvis believed that the companies had misinterpreted and exploited the idea of Mother's Day, and that the emphasis of the holiday was on sentiment, not profit. We wanted to highlight the real sentiment and gratitude that we have for our mothers.
Our Community Center was transformed in Pink, Burgundy, and Gold for our mothers. We wanted to seat our beloved Charter Member, Mother of 4, Grandmother of 3, Great-Grandmother of 1, Spiritual Mother of many, Sister Doloris Bonds at our Welcome Table. She was overjoyed to be gifted a beautiful Orchid from our Women's Ministry Department, Served by the Men's Ministry Department, and showered with many gifts of gratitude, hugs, and kisses.
There were many, many smiles and laughs as everyone enjoyed the day. The men were of excellent service and the women were in great Christian joy. It was indeed a beautiful day in the Lord.
Special Thanks to:
You all made Mother's Day such a wonderful success!
